subj = 97 year old woman arrested in Texas

So a 97 year old woman was arrested for non-payment of a moving violation and driving an unregistered vehicle. Now while I'd agree that handcuffing the legally handicapped and cane walking woman was a bit overboard and likely unnecessary, the arrest is definitely meritted. You can't reasonably contend that had this violation been perpetrated by a youth or middle aged person that this commotion would reach anywhere near the national attention it has. But, from the perspective of treating all citizens equally, could they really 'not' have arrested this woman. As I said, maybe they could have spared her the handcuffs, but arresting her was well justified and necessary to preserve equal protection and treatment under the laws we live by. Anyone who thinks differently should simply think on how they'd view the situation if the woman were 40 instead of 90 would you give her so much leeway?

subj= doc rivers acknowledged

It's about time somebody gave doc rivers the respect he deserves with a new coaching contract. It's really a shame that upper management failure in the Orlando organization made any kind of attempt to say the decline of the Magic was in any major portion attributable to the Doc.

subj= rookie of the year

MELO:

ESPN.com: Page 2 - The Sports Guy's 20 questions: "And then there's 'Melo. I couldn't decide between him and LeBron for Rookie of the Year, mainly because of the 'If they switched teams, would either team be worse?' rule of thumb (and yes, Cleveland would be worse, but Denver would be about the same). But then I watched the Portland game -- the Nuggets needing a win to stay alive, 'Melo dunking on Ratliff with 30 seconds to play, then forcing OT with a ballsy 20-foot fallaway with 4 seconds left, eventually finishing with 30 -- and my mind was made up."

subj= knicks moving on

I'll take it however it comes:

ESPN.com: Page 2 - The Sports Guy's 20 questions: "Is Stern getting soft? Has he entered the 'Vito Corleone stopping to buy some fruit with only Fredo as his bodyguard' stage of his career? We'll know if the Knicks are still playing six weeks from now ... because the David Stern I grew up with never would have allowed a Final Four of Indiana, Minny, San Antonio and Detroit."

subj= J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS!

ESPN.com - NFL - Jets in Queens? NYC rep says it'll be cheaper: "'The cost of the stadium itself remains the same regardless of location -- approximately $800 million, which the Jets are funding entirely,' Higgins said. 'But on Manhattan's far West Side, unlike any other location, the sports and convention center will reap millions of dollars a year in new tax revenue above and beyond the public investment.'"
